The June Project - The June Project was begun after Dr. Mercer and her staff were called to a “hoarders” home where more than 40 animals were near death from neglect, starvation, and disease. Several animals had to be humanly euthanized that terrible day. However, many were also able to be saved through weeks and months of medical treatment, and teaching socialization and earning the animals trust. More than 20 of the 40 animals were placed in loving homes. A blonde Labrador Cross was saved that day and now lives with Dr. Mercer. Her name is “June”.
Horizon Veterinary Clinic began a fund to keep the efforts going to continue to help hurt, sick and homeless animals. The June Project will sponsor a needy pet, treat them and find them a loving home. To date since beginning this effort we have helped and placed 98 animals as of October 2009. We can only take in a new pet after the current pet has been placed in a home.
How we do it? The medical bills have surpassed $25,000. Horizon Veterinary Clinic donates their time and facility however; surgeries, radiographs, treatments, medications, etc. pose a burden. We are able to keep this effort going through generous donations, raffles, and fundraisers such as our yearly massive yard sale. The June Project is still operating in the “red” but we are quite pleased with the enormous support we have received through our clients and friends.
